  1. Work on your paper outlines: find and read good sources, get to know your music, refine your research question and move toward an argument (central idea/thesis).
  2. Analyze the kind of language Hoffmann uses to talk about Beethoven’s music. What metaphors or comparisons does he use? How much technical detail is there as opposed to more poetic and philosophical concepts?
  3. What innovations did Rossini bring to the structure of Italian opera and how did they change the way the drama worked?
